Department of Economics

Economics plays a vital role in the development of the economy. The college was started in the year 2005 – 2006. The department of economics commenced during 2007 – 2008 with first batch enrolling in full strength.

Teaching and Assessment

The teaching method in the department is a blend of theory and practice. ICT based teaching, lectures, case studies, presentations and field trips are given due importance.

The concepts taught are supplemented with their practical implications through eminent guest speakers from other universities and institutions. To ensure that the students are assimilating the knowledge being imparted to them, frequent tests, model examinations for duration of 3 hours and unit tests are conducted.

Oral presentations and written reports are conducted throughout the academic year.

Students of the department entered to a variety of fields such as lecturers, business and teachers.

Amartya Sen Resource Center - Laboratory

  • Department cum lab facilitates the student teachers to know, to learn more participatory.
  • The lab is a spacious work place with all the facilities inclusive of ICT provision.
  • The lab is provided with LCD projector, departmental library, and teaching models prepared by the students.
  • The seating arrangements help the student teachers to have group discussions, seminars and other activities.

Economics Club

Economics Club was inagurated in the year 2011 with the motive to create an awarness for the students to know about the Economic Development of the Country and also to help the downtrodden students. They will be able to inculcate the people who are below the poverty line to uplift themselves and also to know about the importance of Education. This will help them to bring the Economy above the Poverty Line which is the Vision of India

Department Activities

  • One day workshop has been conducted for school teachers by our Extension Service department on 23rd Jan 2012. workshop was headed by M.Ramani Senior Manager of Indian Bank and special Talk on Topic" Recent Trends in Banking" delivered by Mr.G.Venkatachalam, Manager ICICI Bank.
  • As a part of Human Resource Programme Mr.Rajaraman Senior Manager of Indian Bank has delivered Special Lecture on 25th Jan 2012.
  • Personality Development Programme conducted for students. Mr.K.Ramamurthy Business Head and M&R of Larsen and Turbo, Mumbai has given Special Talk on "Better Future Through Personality Development" and also gave interview techniques to students
  • On 7th Sep 2012 our college Inaugurated Arts Club Activities of Tamil, English, Economics and History. Key address given by Dr.L.P.Swaminathan-Rtd Prof.of Agriculture Economics TNAU.
